The Confederation of Truckers Association of the Philippines (CTAP) and Port Users Confederation (PUC) have joined the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Trucking Federation (ATF), finally becoming the Philippines’ representatives to the regional group.
CTAP and PUC officially joined the regional organization during the 2nd Thailand International Truck Show 2017 held in Bangkok last month with the signing by CTAP president Mario Yap and PUC president Rodolfo De Ocampo of the amended memorandum of understanding creating the ATF.
The ATF was established on September 18, 2015 during the ASEAN Economic Community Logistics Summit 2015 in Bangkok. Its members then had consisted of associations and organizations involved in road transportation in eight ASEAN states, except Malaysia and the Philippines.
Malaysia joined in 2016 and the Philippines, through CTAP and PUC, last June.
ATF aims to promote, develop, and enhance land transport, multimodal transport, and border exchanges among ASEAN member states.
The private sector-led group is also a venue for exchanging best practices and sharing issues and concerns in the ASEAN logistics and trucking industry. The group also aims to be the industry’s voice in the region’s working groups and forums.
Members of the regional group include the Federation of Transport Stevedoring Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia Trucking Association, Cambodia Freight Forwarder’s Association, Indonesia Trucking Association, Lao Logistics Group, Pan-Malaysia Lorry Owners’ Association, Myanmar Freight Forwarders Association, Myanmar Freight Transport Association, Keppel T&T, Land Transport Federation of Thailand, Vietnam Automobile Transport Association, and Vietnam Logistics Business Association. – Roumina Pablo
