The A.P. Moller-Maersk Group has joined the World Ocean Council (WOC) to support global efforts on sustainable development and stewardship of the oceans through collaboration with other private sector industries.
“The oceans are core to our activities in shipping and energy. We are pleased to join this forum which provides an important collaborative platform for sustainable advancement,” said John Kornerup Bang, lead advisor on climate and environment in the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group.
Maersk’s environmental strategy pledges to protect the marine environments and biodiversity and reduce the impacts of operations at sea.
“The marine environment is fragile and we are determined to be good citizens of the world’s oceans,” said Kornerup Bang. “This partnership will help us go beyond regulatory standards and take a proactive approach.”
The World Ocean Council is a global, cross-sector industry bringing together a broad range of ocean industries to address sustainable use of the seas. On July 13 and 14, it is holding the National Business Forum on Marine Spatial Planning in Washington D.C. to bring together ocean companies to engage in U.S. ocean planning efforts.
