Indicating the growing interest of long-haul container shipping lines in intra-Asia trades, Hanjin Shipping announced plans to expand its China-India service from early July.

The South Korean carrier said it will start chartering 500-TEU slots on the Hyper Galex (HGX) service, which is operated by Emirates Shipping and makes weekly calls on major ports of northern and southern China and India, from July 10.

In return, Emirates Shipping will be taking the same amount of slots from Hanjin Shipping on its FMX (Far East-Middle East Express) service.

“This is our second service dedicated to Far East/China-India trade in addition to our existing FIX (Far East-India Express) service,” said Hanjin in a statement. “It will certainly help us strengthen our market presence in the trade where cargo demand is steadily growing.”

The HGX port rotation is Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Da Chan Bay, Singapore, Port Kelang, Nhava Sheva, Pipavav, Karachi, Singapore, Hong Kong and Qingdao.

The FIX rotation is Qingdao, Ulsan, Busan, Kwangyang, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Singapore, Nhava Sheva, Penang, Singapore and Qingdao.
