The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) has welcomed the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) as the newest member of the Marina Board.
Marina said it approved DFA’s inclusion in its Board last June.
Prior to being part of Marina’s Board, DFA, through its Maritime and Oceans Affairs Office (DFA-MOAO), has been tasked to craft appropriate interventions to protect Filipino seafarers on board merchant ships trading internationally, as well as on overseas-registered Philippine ships.
DFA-MOAO, represented by Assistant Secretary Generoso Calonge, attended its first Marina Board meeting on July 19, 2018.
Marina said that with DFA-MOAO’s active participation, “the Marina Board will be able to develop more comprehensive policies to guide the movement and growth of the maritime industry, specifically on overseas shipping.”
The Marina Board is led by the Department of Transportation, with members including the Marina administrator and the representatives of the Office of the President, Philippine Ports Authority, Philippine Coast Guard, Department of Trade and Industry, Development Bank of the Philippines, and the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, as well as private maritime stakeholders.
