Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) announced a general rate increase (GRI) for all cargo on the US-Far East trade from March 2012.

The Swiss carrier said the rate hikes are as follows:

• US West Coast—US$50 per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU); $100 per 40-foot equivalent unit (FEU)

• From intermodal points moving through/via US West Coast—$100 per TEU; $200 per FEU
• US East Coast and Gulf—$100 per TEU; $150 per FEU

• From intermodal points moving through/via US East Coast or Gulf—$100 per TEU; $200 per FEU

The new rates apply from March 1, MSC said in a statement.
