Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) said it has obtained an interim injunction to “restrain persons from unlawfully and wilfully obstructing or interfering with the proper use of Hong Kong International Airport (the Airport).”

In a brief statement published on the HKIA website August 14, AAHK added that “persons are also restrained from attending or participating in any demonstration or protest or public order event in the Airport other than in the area designated by the Airport Authority.”

“The interim injunction expressly provides that nothing in the interim injunction shall be construed as authorising any demonstration, protest or public order event contrary to the Public Order Ordinance,” it continued.

Airport Authority is in the process of obtaining sealed copies of the interim injunction and will publish the interim injunction upon obtaining sealed copies, it said.

The statement was issued as HKIA, one of the busiest passenger airports in the world, resumed operations on August 14, after violent anti-government demonstrations in which protesters and riot police clashed grounded flights the previous day amid a worsening crisis in the Chinese-controlled territory.

Earlier this month, HKIA said it set new records in passenger numbers and flight movements in its fiscal year (FY) 2018-19, although financial performance for the period remained weak.
