Five box lines that run three joint services between Asia, Mexico, and the West Coast of South America will temporarily reduce these services to two during the weak winter season.
CCNI, Hamburg Sud together with China Shipping, Hanjin Shipping, and Hyundai Merchant Marine plan to merge two of their three strings into one starting mid-November 2011.
CCNI said the CCNI/Hamburg Sud string 2 will be combined with the China Shipping/Hanjin/Hyundai string 1. The new rotations will be as follows:
String 1: Keelung, Hong Kong, Xiamen, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Lazaro Cardenas, Manzanillo, Buenaventura, Callao, Iquique, Puerto Angamos, Valparaiso, Keelung.
This service will deploy 11 ships, each with a capacity of 5,500 TEUs, with Hamburg Sud providing 10 vessels and CCNI one.
String 2: Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Hong Kong, Busan, Manzanillo, Buenaventura, Guayaquil, Puerto Angamos, Valparaiso, San Vicente, Manzanillo, Busan.
This string will have 10 ships of capacities between 3,100 and 4,500 TEUs. Of these, CCNI, China Shipping and Hanjin will each provide three vessels, and Hyundai will have one.
String 1 starts on November 17 with the arrival of the Monte Aconcagua in Hong Kong, and string 2 on November 20 when the Hanjin Santos arrives in Shanghai.
“It is estimated that this agreement will be in place up to May 2012,” CCNI said.
