BOC collection up 4.7% in Aug

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has exceeded its collection target for the seventh month in a row, collecting P51.739 billion in August 2018, or 4.7% higher than the P49.31-billion target.

BOC, in a statement, said data from its Financial Service showed the August 2018 collection is 35.1% higher than the P38.289 billion recorded in the same month last year.

Of the 17 collection districts, only the Manila International Container Port and Port of Subic missed their collection targets for the month.

MICP collected P14.782 billion against the P15.237-billion target, while Subic port posted P1.478 billion versus the P1.778-billion target.

The 15 ports that exceeded their August 2018 targets are:

1. Port of Batangas collected P12.716 billion, up 11.2% or P1.276 billion;
2. Port of Manila collected P7.810 billion, up 5.1% or P382 million;
3. Port of Limay collected P3.435 billion, up 14.2% or P428 million;
4. Ninoy Aquino International Airport collected P3.106 billion, up 0.2% or P6 million;
5. Port of Cebu collected P2.513 billion, up 12.9% or P286 million;
6. Port of Davao collected P2.401 billion, up 51.4% or P815 million;
7. Port of Cagayan de Oro collected P1.913 billion, up 37.1% or P517 million;
8. Port of San Fernando collected P397 million, up 47% or P127 million;
9. Port of Iloilo collected P378 million, up 41.1% or P110 million;
10. Port of Clark collected P147 million, up 13.1% or P17 million;
11. Port of Tacloban collected P102 million, up 363.4% or P80 million;
12. Port of Legazpi collected P33 million, up 40% or P9.5 million;
13. Port of Zamboanga collected P24 million, up 1.2% or P300,000;
14. Port of Aparri collected P7 million, up 43.7% or P2 million; and
15. Port of Surigao collected P2 million, up 46.6% or P700,000.

Financial Service attributes the positive performance to the higher exchange rate, increased oil price in the market, proper valuation, and strong enforcement and revenue-enhancing measures.

In addition, Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña’s one-strike policy, which removes officials from a port that does not hit its monthly target, has been motivating ports to consistently hit their targets.

BOC has collected a total of P384.3 billion from January to August. This is 35.5% up from the P283.56 billion collected during the same period in 2017.

For 2018, BOC is tasked to collect P598 billion.
