The Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc. (CCBI), the professional organization of customs brokers in the country recognized by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), plans to automate its membership database and electronically issue certificates of good standing to customs brokers.
Newly elected president Dennis Del Pilar, in a recent chance interview with PortCalls, said an electronic database and a national identification card are priority projects under his two-year term.
The CCBI head said the proposed e-database will be linked to that of the PRC Board of Customs Brokers (PRCBCB) and the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) Account Management Office (AMO) to ensure it is always updated.
PRCBCB issues licenses of customs brokers while AMO accredits them so they can transact with BOC.
Del Pilar said he hopes to start the automation project by November, in time for CCBI’s 25th anniversary.
The project also harmonizes with Del Pilar’s target to achieve ISO certification for the organization.
CCBI has about 2,000 members engaged in the brokerage business, either as individuals, in partnership with other customs brokers, or as principal or alternate customs brokers of brokerage companies.
The organization is affiliated with the International Federation of Customs Brokers Association, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Philippine Federation of Professional Association, and Port Users Confederation.
CCBI has chapters in Batangas, Cebu, Subic, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, and Zamboanga. – Roumina Pablo
