Global supply chain service Ceva Logistics has opened its first center for logistics excellence in Asia-Pacific in Changi, Singapore, part of its overall strategy to tap into what it said was the fastest growing region today.

The company said the Asia Pacific Center of Logistics Excellence will be a knowledge and innovation hub in Asia that will develop supply chain talents and offer best-in-class technologies and supply chain solutions to strengthen its presence in the region.

Asia’s consumers are expected to make up more than half of the world’s middle class by 2020, said the company. “This is a significant growth trend that shows increasing urbanization, rising disposal income and in turn, the increased consumption power across Asian countries. Supply chain and logistics companies will help enable this growth.”

The center will showcase integrated supply chain capabilities, an innovative operations ecosystem, and a control tower that functions as a complete end-to-end supply chain management hub for greater visibility and real-time information worldwide, 24/7.

This is CEVA’s second center following the inaugural launch of the concept in Jacksonville, Florida.

“Customers today want increased supply chain performance at reduced costs as a way to remain competitive,” said Inna Kuznetsova, chief commercial officer. “We want the new center to become a global hub of innovation in supply chain management.”

At the same time, Ceva has announced the formal appointment of Peter Dew as president of Asia-Pacific, a position he has held on an interim basis since July.

Since joining the organization in April 2008 as CIO, Dew has held additional other positions within the group, including chief human resources officer, and is currently on the board of gender diversity.

“Peter’s immense knowledge of supply chain and freight management will be a real asset to our operations in Asia-Pacific,” said CEO Marv Schlanger. “His role as CIO required close partnerships with our customers and an in-depth understanding of their businesses. This experience will be critical as he supports our customers across the Asia-Pacific region with their supply chain needs.”

Prior to joining CEVA, Dew spent his career with BOC Group, becoming chief information officer there in 1998. When BOC was acquired by the Linde Group in 2006, he became CIO of the combined entity.
