Singapore Changi Airport experienced this September its third consecutive month of cargo contraction for the year.
The airport processed 153,700 tonnes of airfreight last month, which is 0.4 percent lower than for September 2011.
For the year to September 2012, airfreight movements dipped 0.3 percent to 1.84 million tonnes, affected by lower consumption in major economies since the turn of the year, an official company statement said today.
But traffic figures for September 2012 were higher than those from the previous month, when freight volume reached 146 million tonnes, a 4.4 percent dip from August 2011.
So far this year, Changi Airport said it has welcomed three new carriers—Singapore-based Scoot Airlines, Bhutan flag-carrier Drukair, and China’s all-cargo carrier Yangtze River Express—as well as the return of Indonesia’s Mandala Airlines.
