Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has accepted the delivery of its eighth 13,208-TEU (20-foot-equivalent unit) ship and named it NYK Hyperion at a christening ceremony held October 7 on Geoje Island in South Korea.
Leased to Nippon Yusen Kaisha of Japan, the fuel-efficient mega box ship is the eighth of the ten 13,208-TEU-class container ships ordered by OOCL from Samsung Heavy Industries.
The NYK Hyperion, measuring 366.5 meters long and 48.2 meters wide, will be serving the Asia-Europe trade on the Loop 7 service with a round trip of 77 days.
Its port rotation is Qingdao, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Yantian, Singapore, Salalah, via Suez Canal, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Southampton, via Suez Canal, Singapore, Yantian, and back to Qingdao.
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong-listed company said it will implement a revenue restoration scheme in the Asia-Europe trade effective November 1. Freight rate for westbound traffic from the Far East (excluding Japan) to North Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Black Sea will be increased by US$975 per TEU.
