Jeffrey Ian Dy, the newly appointed deputy commissioner for the Management Information System and Technology Group of the Philippine Bureau of Customs.

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Jeffrey Ian Dy as the new deputy commissioner for the Management Information System and Technology Group (MISTG) of the Bureau of Customs (BOC).

Dy’s appointment paper was dated August 9 and released on August 13. Dy took the place of Noel Patrick Prudente, who was fired by Duterte last May supposedly due to excessive travels.

The new MISTG deputy commissioner had been director III of MISTG’s Technology Management Service since April 23 this year, and before his latest appointment, was the officer-in-charge of the same group since June.

Prior to BOC, Dy was vice president of training and consulting service provider SAS Management, Inc., and head of global IT operations of Ubiquity Global Services. His other posts included as technology manager of Asia Pacific of Smartmatic, Inc., and regional technical project manager of Asia Pacific of Menarini Philippines, Inc. He also worked in different capacities for REWSS Philippines, Inc., Siemens Business Services, People Support, and Hetelcom Philippines, Inc. Dy also had a stint as a legislative officer at the House of Representative.

Dy graduated from the University of the Philippines Los Baños with a degree in Applied Physics (Computing Instrumentation), and has a diploma in Leadership and Management from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business Center for Continuing Education.

Currently, Dy is overseeing the implementation of several automation projects at BOC, including the improvement of the electronic-to-mobile system, 1-Assessment, i-Track, automated bonds management system, and Cargo Targeting System. – Roumina Pablo
