A lower emergency bunker surcharge (EBS) will be applied to all outbound shipments from Vietnam to intra-Asia ports from January next year, OOCL (Vietnam) Co. announced.

In a media statement, OOCL Vietnam said the new EBS for shipments from Vietnam to intra-Asia destinations will be US$42 for a 20-foot container and $84 for a 40-foot container and a high-cube container.

The EBS will cover cargoes from Ho Chi Minh, Hai Phong, Danang, and Qui Nhon going to all intra-regional ports except those in Japan, South Korea, the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

The new EBS takes effect from January 1, 2013.

OOCL Vietnam said the surcharge is on top of existing ocean freight rates and subject to supplementary charges applicable during shipment.
