GLOBE Telecom’s cargo track and trace solution, the Globe Tracker GPS, aims to address cargo owners’ need for increased protection of their transported assets.
The solution uses the global positioning system and aims to decrease incidence of theft and pilferage, optimize distribution of delivery trucks, quicken deliveries, and lower gasoline expenses.
It can generate trip logs, analyze optimization of delivery trucks (total distance traveled, idle time, run time, turnaround time), and receive emergency alerts. It also features alert sensors activated when the door is opened or closed.
In addition, the solution can provide automated responses to inquiries of retailers and distributors on truck/delivery status.
There are now 1,900 trucks all over the country equipped with Globe’s tracking solution.
Subscribers pay a one-time fee of P2,500 plus a monthly subscription of P2,800, inclusive of the device, usage, support and sensors.
Repairs or unit replacements are care of Globe.
“The cost involved is cheaper compared to underguarding (paid to) the BOC (Bureau of Customs),” Grace Castillo, head of sales for Enterprise Segments of Globe Telecom, told participants at last week’s PortCalls Cargo Economics Conference.
The BOC underguarding fee for a three-day transshipment, for instance, amounts to P5,824.
In line with BOC efforts
The BOC is pushing for the use of cargo tracking and tracing devices to minimize the incidence of hijacking. In July, the bureau issued CAO 4-2010 which requires cargo owners to equip their cargo with an electronic GPS-equipped barrier seal so that BOC can track and monitor cargoes from Customs territories to their final destination.
The system will also determine cargoes not covered by the appropriate entry and which may be subject of abandonment proceedings.
The order is not yet in effect.
