German carrier Hapag-Lloyd is planning a series of general rate increases affecting the Asia trade effective the middle of May.

The company will boost rates for all cargoes and container types from the Mediterranean to East Asia by US$150 per container from May 12.

The Mediterranean is comprised of the West Mediterranean, East Mediterranean, Black Sea, and North Africa.

East Asia consists of Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Macao, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brunei, and the Russian Pacific ports of Vladivostok and Vostochny.

Effective May 15, Hapag-Lloyd will impose rate hikes for all cargoes and container types on the East Asia-Caribbean and Latin America trade lanes. The company said freight rates will be adjusted upward by $500 per TEU (20-foot-equivalent unit) on these routes:

  • East Asia to the Caribbean, Central America East Coast, and Panama
  • East Asia to Mexico, Central America West Coast, and South America West Coast
