Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has reset for the second time its peak season surcharge (PSS) in the eastbound Pacific trade, moving it to August 15. Earlier, OOCL postponed the surcharge to August 1 from the original schedule of July 15.
The surcharges will be $320 per 20-foot container, $400 per 40-foot container, $450 per 40-foot high cube, and $505 per 45-foot high cube.
OOCL said recently that 2011 was a disappointing year for the Hong Kong-based carrier because of an overcapacity that has caused the deterioration of freight rates.
The liner has been among a number of carriers to delay peak season surcharges to August. Maersk Line similarly moved the imposition of its PSS on East Asia-U.S. East Coast cargo from July 15 to August 1. The surcharge will be $320 per TEU, $400 per FEU, $450 per 40-foot high cube, and $510 per 45-foot box.
APL has likewise picked August 1 as the start of its peak season surcharge on all cargo shipped from Asia and the Middle East to the United States and Canada. The proposed surcharge will be $320 per 20-foot container, $400 per 40-foot container, $450 per 40-foot high cube container and $505 per 45-foot high cube container.
