FLAG carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) will aggressively develop its cargo business in the Brisbane and Riyadh markets, soon to be serviced once again by PAL.
The carrier will restart its Manila-Brisbane service on March 17 and Manila-Riyadh on March 28.
While the aircraft to be deployed on the routes will primarily cater to the passage segment, the airline will nonetheless “aggressively develop our cargo market from the two cities considering their strong potential”, PAL international cargo sales manager Jerry Calaluan told PortCalls.
Boeing 777s for original use in US routes will be deployed for the services. As a result, capacity in the Brisbane and Riyadh sectors will double.
Aircraft for US services are being deployed elsewhere until such time the status of the Philippine aviation industry is restored to Category 1. On January 17, 2008, the US Federal Aviation Administration downgraded the Philippines’ rating to Category 2 from Category 1, since the Air Transportation Office did not fully satisfy international safety standards.
