Philippine domestic cargo volume jumped 16% in the first three quarters of the year, with budget airline Cebu Pacific (CEB) handling the bulk of cargo.

Latest data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) showed domestic cargo volume at the end of the third quarter reached 146.77 million kilograms (kg) from 126.52 million kg in the same period last year.

CEB carried 70.447 million kg or 48% of the total.

Philippine Airlines was in second spot, carrying 42.92 million kg or 29.24% of the total volume, and its low-cost unit, Airphil Express, in third spot with 19.17 million kg.

Zest Airways, Southeast Asian Air and Air Asia came in fourth, fifth and sixth with 14.06 million kg, 93,637 kg and 63,589 kg, respectively.

 

Passenger figures

Domestic passenger volume went up 10.5% to 15.01 million in the first three quarters from 14.03 million year-on-year.

Domestic load factor, which measures the number of seats occupied during a flight, averaged 64%, down from 76.6% in 2011.

CEB was also the leading domestic passenger carrier after it flew 6.98 million, up 13% from 6.17 million last year. Its load factor, however, fell to 76% from 81%.

PAL catered to 3.27 million passengers, a 3.44% dip from last year while Airphil Express flew 3.44 million passengers from last year’s 2.72 million.

Zest Airways accommodated 1.59 million passengers from 1.58 million and Southeast Asian Airlines, 119,797 from 115,525.

New player, Air Asia carried 110,430 passengers and posted a load factor of 42%.
