Atlanta-based UPS said the recent opening of three new health-care distribution facilities in Asia-Pacific was part of its strategy to address trends of growing health-care consumption in the region.

“Asia is our fastest-growing market for health care and we are seeing increased activity in the region, especially in China,” said Bill Hook, vice president, global strategy, UPS Healthcare Logistics.

The new facilities in Hangzhou and Shanghai, China, and in Sydney, Australia, bring the total number of UPS dedicated health-care facilities around the globe to 36, encompassing more than one-half million square meters of space, the package delivery service said in an October 25 official release.

Opened in the third quarter of this year, the 22,000-square-meter Hangzhou facility is designed to support the increasing number of pharmaceutical companies that are locating manufacturing operations in China.

Located within the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, the recently opened 7,500-square-meter Shanghai facility provides access to one of the largest consumption markets for health-care products.

Opened in the third quarter of this year, the Sydney facility is 5,300 square meters of dedicated healthcare distribution space targeting companies looking to set up distribution in Sydney to serve regional markets.
