Taiwan’s Wan Hai Lines (WHL) and Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) have agreed to merge their Japan-Indonesia services to increase their capacity and coverage of the Japan-Southeast Asia trade.

MOL’s CHS3 will be combined with WHL’s NS1 (New Super 1) service, and the merged sling will deploy bigger ships, upping capacity by half.

The CHS3 service was  launched in March 2012 using four ships with capacities of 2,500 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The new CHS3 service will deploy four Panamax vessels with capacities of 4,250 TEUs.

The first ship to sail under the new CHS3 service will depart Hong Kong northbound on September 6, WHL said in a statement yesterday.

The service rotation will be Osaka, Yokkaichi, Yokohama, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Klang, Jakarta, Port Klang, Singapore,  Cai Mep, Hong Kong, and Osaka.
