Budget carrier Cebu Pacific Air and customs-bonded warehousing and logistics facility operator Cargohaus have inaugurated a cargo inspection portal that will be used for the airline’s transshipment cargoes in international flights.

The Smiths Detection CIP-300 air cargo inspection portal, the first of its kind to be installed in an airport in Asia, was recently inaugurated at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

The portal will be for “Cebu Pacific Air’s priority use for all transhipment cargoes loaded in international flights to and from Manila,” the airline said in a statement.

The air cargo inspection portal developed by a United Kingdom-based technology group can accommodate and screen up to nine tons of air cargo dolleys and unit load devices (ULDs). It is powered by a low-energy X-ray source and uses advanced material discrimination software which provides high quality images that reveal detailed contents of freight and baggage.

“CEB is proud to be the first carrier to use this state-of-the-art air cargo inspection portal,” Cebu Pacific vice president for Fuel and Cargo Operations Joey Macagga said.

“Enhanced speed and accuracy of cargo inspection would greatly benefit our shippers and consignees, as we continue to operate airport-to-airport cargo delivery via our extensive route network,” Macagga added. Cebu Pacific and Cargohaus have been partners since 2007.

Cebu Pacific Cargo flies to 34 domestic and 27 international destinations. Services also include transhipments through 21 interline global partners.

The airline has a fleet of 5 aircraft comprised of 10 Airbus A319, 31 Airbus A320, 6 Airbus A330 and 8 ATR 72-500 aircraft. Between 2015 and 2021, Cebu Pacific will take delivery of 7 more brand-new Airbus A320 and 30 Airbus A321neo aircraft.
