Cathay Pacific Airways has named Rupert Hogg its chief operating officer with effect from March 2014. He will become a director of the Hong Kong-based airline at the same time.

Hogg, 51, takes over from Ivan Chu, who will assume the post of Cathay Pacific’s chief executive, replacing current chief executive John Slosar. In turn, Slosar will succeed Christopher Pratt as chairman of the airline, John Swire & Sons (H.K.), Swire Pacific, Swire Properties, and Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Co.

Hogg has been director of sales and marketing since August 2010, responsible for Cathay Pacific’s group sales and marketing activities worldwide. From 2008 to 2010 he was director of cargo, overseeing all aspects of the group’s cargo business.

He joined John Swire & Sons in 1986 and worked with Cathay Pacific from 1988 to 1997 in a variety of management positions, both in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, Singapore Changi Airport reported a rise of 1.8 percent in cargo handled in October, totaling 157,400 tonnes, compared to a year ago.

On a rolling-year basis, airfreight movements were stable at 1.85 million tonnes for the 12-month period.
