The Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) is bringing back the double-decker bus to the streets of Metro Manila.
But DOTr said that this time around, the buses are equipped with world-class features for a more pleasant and comfortable commuting experience for passengers.
Fourteen brand-new double-decker buses were launched at the Point-to-Point (P2P) Bus Terminal at TriNoma on October 12, DOTr said in a statement.
Two of the buses are customized VIP units, with the upper floor fitted with 52 reclining sleeper seats with foot rests as well as reading lights. Each seat has a monitor loaded with games, the latest movies, and other entertainment apps. The lower floor features a VIP cabin with rest room, cooler, VIP sofas, conference table, and two 50-inch flat screen TV monitors with KTV functions.
The VIP double-decker buses are equipped with CCTV cameras and passed Euro 5 emission standards, making them safe and environment-friendly.
Apart from the VIP buses, seven semi-VIP and five PWD double-decker buses were also launched.
All new units will ply the TriNoma-Makati (Glorietta 5) route on a 24-hour basis from Monday to Sunday. The fare for a single journey is P55 and that for a roundtrip is P80. However, operator Froehlich Tours offers a 50% discount (P25) for an unlimited ride during weekend mall-hop operations. Passengers can also avail of the one-month unlimited ride promo for P1,300.
The fleet targets passengers who will be affected by the “no window hours” policy for private vehicles under the number coding scheme. The program will be strictly implemented on EDSA, C5, Mandaluyong, Alabang-Zapote, and Roxas Boulevard starting October 17.
