Hamburg-based Hapag-Lloyd said it will be implementing general rate increases (GRIs) for all kinds of cargo and containers on routes to and from East Asia.

All GRIs will take effect from July 15, 2012, the company said.

The German ocean container carrier, the world’s fourth largest, said it will hike freight rates from East Asia to the Caribbean and Panama by US$560 per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and $800 per 40-foot equivalent unit.

Meanwhile, new rates for the East Asia-South America East Coast loop will carry an additional $500 per TEU.

For the East Asia-Mexico, Central America, and West Coast of South America trade lanes, container prices will go up by $400 per TEU by July 15.
