Hamburg-based Hapag-Lloyd announced it will increase rates effective March for all cargoes and containers from East Asia to Mexico, West Coast of Central America, and West Coast of South America.
The freight rate increase is US$500 per 20-foot-equivalent unit (TEU) and begins from March 15, 2013.
Similarly, Hapag-Lloyd will levy a general rate increase (GRI) of $300 per TEU effective March 15 on the trade from East Asia (excluding Japan) to the Indian Sub-continent.
The German ocean carrier will also impose a GRI of $300 per TEU on the Northeast Asia (Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan)-Australia trade from March 15.
And effective March 1, there will be a rate hike of $50 per TEU for all cargoes and containers from the Indian Sub-continent to Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.
The Indian Sub-continent includes Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and India, while Northeast Asia covers China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. Southeast Asia encompasses Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
