Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line) intends to open a new subsidiary in Yangon, Myanmar, in January 2014.

This is part of a strategy to provide transportation and logistics services particularly to Japanese companies seeking to set up shop in the Southeast Asian country.

“K” Line said it will appoint Japanese personnel from its Tokyo head office to the Yangon branch to better communicate with Japanese companies operating or planning to operate in the country amid increasing business activity in the emerging market.

“Myanmar has been attracting attention in recent years as one of the ‘post-China’ countries, and many Japanese companies are establishing operations in Myanmar with projects such as the joint construction of the Thilawa Industrial Park by Japan and the government of Myanmar,” explained “K” Line further.

It added that it intends to establish a joint venture with a local company in order to push through with its business expansion.
